➤ THANK YOU! “Under the Oaks” Farm to Table Dinner
Thank you to all the students, teachers, parents and friends of VCS who made our main fundraiser of the year a wonderful success! It was a beautiful night of celebration and community. Gifts of time, skills, auction items, resources, and funds made it possible for us to net over $10,000 in direct support for VCS. THANK YOU! Check out photos from the night here. (thank you, Kanoe!)
Please thank and support our donors when you can!

➤ Acorn Class Gear Drive

The Acorns are gearing up for all kinds of weather in their outdoor classroom, and we’d love to give your family’s used and outgrown weather gear another turn around the seasons. We’re collecting:
- Rain jackets and rain pants (separates rather than one-piece suits, so the children can manage the bathroom on their own)
- Waterproof boots like Crocs or Bogs
- Base layers, wool socks, warm hats, and similar
All sizes welcome, including toddler, since we have younger siblings in our midst too, but ideally we’re looking for clothing sizes 3T – 6 ish.
Drop donations in the labeled bin in Miss Jess’ indoor classroom as soon as possible, so we’re ready for the coming rain.
Questions? Contact Acorn Class PA Liaison Elisette Weiss at elisette.weiss@gmail.com or 707-486-2150.
➤ 2026 Fall CSA Boxes
Hello VCS families! This year our middle school is going to embark on our 2nd annual VCS CSA box program. We highly encourage anyone that has a surplus of items from their own garden to please donate to our program as it would help greatly. We will have a link below to sign up to donate any goods.
Sincerely,
Levi, Enzo, Arthur, Leo, Ashton, Aurelio, Osha, Lowell, Ezra, Sonny
➤ October Garden Help Needed
We are receiving a pallet of new native plants from Xerces this October. I need some help in two ways:
1) Could you help prep the area? Create a border with old logs or wood, lay cardboard, bring/spread leaf mulch, bring in some compost? Work needs to be completed before November 7th.
2) Could you help with planting day on Saturday November 7th?
Please email jesstruttman@villagecharterschool.com if you can help with any of this work!
This Week’s Garden Classroom Recipe
Flavored Hop Water
Steep fresh hops in boiling water for 2 minutes
Strain and cool
Add desired flavors using fresh fruit, herbs, etc.
➤ Fieldtrip Driver/Chaperone Requirements
We have several field trips in the works and we will need drivers. Please make sure you update your driver’s license and car insurance information on file for being a driver/chaperone ASAP. Check with Emma if you need to know what needs updating. THANK YOU!
If you want to volunteer at VCS in the classroom or on field trips and aren’t fingerprinted yet, you can print the necessary paperwork here.
Auto Insurance: Village Charter School’s insurance company requires that all drivers carry a minimum of $100,000.00 of Property Damage and $100,000/person and $300,000.00/occurrence of Bodily Injury coverage. We will need a copy of the declaration page from your insurance policy demonstrating this coverage. It is also an option to obtain one-day coverage from your insurance company at this level of coverage. Evidence of this coverage must be provided to the school.
➤ Important Contact Information
We have new contact information for Extended Care!
Extended Care Phone: 707-870-9700
Extended Care Email: trish@villagecharterschool.com
Please check that you have the correct email saved for the office as well. The new contact for the VCS Office is Emma Kerfoot at officemanager@villagecharterschool.com.
Carolyn’s old email address, vcsofficemanager@gmail.com, is no longer in use. Do not send emails to that address. They will not be seen.
➤ Parking/Traffic
Thank you to everyone who is being patient and kind when dealing with our parking/traffic struggles at pick up and drop-off. I know the situation is difficult and often very frustrating. We are looking at some signage and other things that could help on a small scale, but there is no big fix in the works that addresses the reality of our location and parking lot size. Keep doing the things you can do–car pool, bike, city bus, arrive early or later in the afternoon, be patient, follow the rules, slow down, etc. Thank you!
➤ BIKE REMINDERS!
Slow down on the path to the school!
You MUST WALK your bike once you enter the parking lot in front of the school.
Walk your bike in the cross walk.
Go with the directional flow of traffic.
