STEAM and Rhythm & BeatsOur STEAM shelf has a variety of rotating activities students can choose from as an independent center during small group rotations, or during Choices.
Today students reviewed and explored the different notes and rhythms they are learning with rhythm sticks, then created their own “fruit salad” 4-beat rhythms. They did amazing!

September Classroom Support Jobs
If you are able and would like to sign up for a classroom support job, I currently have two available (with multiple slots each). I will be sending a new sign-up for each month, so there will be more opportunities coming up! Please sign up for one date so that others may also have an opportunity, and if we still need slots filled next week I will repost. Thank you!!
Towel Team – I’m calling it a team because I ask that your student helps out, because I will often forget to send the basket home and they may be better at remembering! This job is best done
over the weekend – you’ll take the basket of towels home to launder and then bring them back all clean and folded and ready to go!
Water Wizard – Just when the students think the water cooler in our classroom
is empty and they can’t fill their water bottle, voila! I grab the other bottle that has been magically and mysteriously filled by our water wizard and fill it up again. Our water jugs are just 3-gallons, easy to carry
in and out from the parking lot.

“Creatrilogy” Artwork
Today we completed our third piece of art inspired by the books in the
“Creatrilogy” Series by Peter H. Reynolds. These books inspire students to believe in their creativity, even if it’s just starting with a dot and seeing where it goes.. making a drawing that looks “ish” like it’s
“supposed to”… or making the sky any color their imagination takes them.

Tuesday News – August 25th
We’ve had a fabulous first week of school!
Students are learning new routines and getting back into the swing of things. I am excited to begin our language and math routines next week, which I can tell you a little more about at our Back-to-School night, next Wednesday, September 2nd!
Support, Classroom Jobs and Volunteering
We appreciate and need the support from our families during the school year. Support might be on field trips or in the classroom OR behind the scenes:
Wishlists: I will periodically post a wishlist in my newsletter for items and/or help with tasks.
Classroom Jobs:
Please see next week’s newsletter for a classroom job sign-up. These jobs are regular behind-the-scenes tasks that significantly improve the health and cleanliness of our classroom.
Drivers/Chaperones:
As I finalize this year’s field trips, I will send a request for drivers and chaperones. If you would like to drive/chaperone, please check in with the office to update your paperwork.
Task Wishlist!

Tuesday News – August 18th
Welcome to the School Year!
Welcome back to all of the returning families, and a warm welcome to those who are joining our classroom community this year!
Tuesday newsletters will be sent every Tuesday with updates, special dates, requests, information, and photos about what’s going on here in our classroom.
Hi, I’m Miss Kristen!|
This is my 13th year at Village, and I’m excited to begin another year with your kiddos!. I feel so grateful to be part of such a close-knit community where I get the opportunity to know all of our students. I love teaching in a multi-age classroom and am always learning and evolving as a teacher, finding something new to bring to each school year. Outside of school, I like singing and making music, hiking, paddling, and swimming in the river… and I have a big sweet spot for ice cream!
Our first day of school is tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19th
• ***Please read the VCS bulletin from today to read about traffic and parking***
• If arriving early, students may hang their backpack outside the classroom and put their lunch in their cubby, then head out to play on the blacktop.
• I will blow my whistle to gather our class at the start of school – join us if you are able for our all-school spiral dance.
•You may pick up your student outside our classroom, otherwise please communicate with me if you would like your student to walk out with someone else (an older sibling, older friend, etc.)
Students should bring:
• Backpack
• lunchbox
• water bottle
• A change of clothes for muddy mishaps, spills, accidents, etc (underwear, socks, leggings/shorts). Students may keep them in their backpacks OR bring them to me in a labeled gallon-sized ziplock bag and I’ll keep them in the classroom.
Communication
• Please make a habit of reading both my Tuesday Newsletters and the VCS Bulletin. These are our main modes of communication and contain important
details.
• Mornings before school are my time to prepare for the day, so they aren’t always the best time to communicate questions or conversations. If you would like to discuss something with me please send an email first, and we can
find a time to meet in person if needed.
• You are welcome to reply to the Tuesday Newsletter with comments, but for questions or other communication, please start a new email thread so that I don’t miss your message:
